Description
40 x 80 cm 15 ¾" x 31 ½" plus 6 cm 2 ½" twisted and knotted fringe each end. Hand woven cotton fabric with probably cotton embroidery threads. Short knotted fringe on selvages also. Colours wine and blue on unbleached base. May have been made of 2 similar pieces as there is a the line of stitching across the center and the 2 halves are not identical patterns. Some threads missing along edges. Label "Greek white runner fringe wine and blue 7", small label "Dorita E. Grant" on safety pin removed;collected in Greece between 1910 and 1927 by Mary Ellen Palin "Nellie" while English governess to Lavria Averof;displayed in black case B
