Description
67 cm 26 ½" diameter cover constructed of re-purposed pieces likely from skirts or bed covers. Hand woven ecru cotton fabric with red and turquoise cotton embroidery. Center section consists of 2 pieces stitched together and converted from a square to a 23 cm 9 hexagon with plain fabric. Middle section is 8 cm 3 wide composed of 4 parts stitched together and gathered onto center. Outer section is 15.5 cm 6 1/8 wide and composed of 6 parts gathered onto center. Lining is also handwoven cotton of three pieces joined with hand stitching but sewn to face by machine.;slight soiling, faded, collected by Mary Ellen Palin "Nellie" while English governess to Lavria Averof between 1910 and 1927. small label 'Greece round (centerpiece scratched out) cushion cover 27 15 encircled" attached with safety pin, 2 small labels "Dorita E. Grant" removed, small label "19" removed
